Harvested by hand in the mountainous and  wild district of Hadong, this green tea is produced according to millenary old Korean traditions. The younger harvested leaves are put together and then briefly cooked in a wok at 300°C. This first cooking ensures a softer taste, and is followed by a rubbing of the leaves, in order to fully extract their aroma. The third step consists in the drying of the leaves, followed by a new cooking at low temperature, for several hours, in order to bring in a roasted flavour.

This tea comes from the slopes of Mount Jiri, famous for being the land of the "Tea of Kings". This is also from there that most Korean tea traditions come from, and it is there that work the producers who are the most truthful to the ancestral methods. The wilderness of the area, with its mountains and a river running at their feet, give a unique taste to tea.

UNAMI offers you this organic green tea, of the Sejak grade, which corresponds to April's harvest, which happens in an optimal periods for the nutritional properties of the leaves. This tea gives a clear liquor, with a soft, subtle and refreshing taste.

Tea and health

Recent books and studies seem to prove that green tea plays an essential role, not only in preventing, but also in treating cardiovascular dusease and some types of cancer. In his books, David Servan-Schreiber has stressed the presence in green tea of a catechin, the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This powerful antioxidant is capable of neutralizing the reactive oxygen species and the free radicals heavily involved in aging and in chronic degenerative diseases. Researches have shown that  the EGCG may have beneficial effects against numerous illnesses, like atherosclerosis, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases or overweight. In Chinese traditional medicine, it is recommended for intellectual work, to reduce fatigue by stimulating the nervous system, to lower body temperature, enhance eyesight, reinforce the immune system, help digestion... It is important to underline that the green tea that is evoked here is of good quality and, of course, straight, plain green tea!
